Sorolla Museum
The Sorolla Museum was the family home, studio and workshop of Joaquín Sorolla. The Valencian painter of the light and colors of the Mediterranean, its landscapes and beaches, the sea and the scenes of everyday life. It was his wife who donated the house and the collections it housed to the State. Today you can see those of painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, photography, jewelry, among others, and even the furniture of the house. The museum and the gardens are an authentic oasis in the heart of the Chamberí neighborhood.
Museum of Romanticism
A neoclassical palace from the 16.000th century in the heart of the city. The founder was the Marquis de la Vega Inclán, another great collector who began with his donation the collection of more than 4.000 pieces - painting, drawing, sculpture or decorative arts, and XNUMX historical documents that today houses the house museum. The garden and the museum offer a trip to the time and movement of XNUMXth century Romanticism in Spain, to the daily life of the wealthy gentry and their customs.
National Museum of Decorative Arts
The urban mansion of the XIX headquarters of the National Museum of Decorative Arts was donated by the Duchess of Santoña. The old manor house today home to the museum recreates daily life and the stories of the past and present, from the 70.000th century to the present day. For this, it has a collection of more than XNUMX pieces - sculptures, ceramics, porcelains, carpets, tapestries, clocks, fans, musical instruments, jewelery, silverware, etc. - which are shown through numerous temporary exhibitions.
Cerralbo Museum
The nineteenth-century palace, the family's residence, and all the art collections that he acquired throughout his life were donated by the Marquis of Cerralbo, one of the most important collections of the time. More than 50.000 very varied pieces: paintings, sculptures, tapestries, prints, watches, ceramics, drawings, photographs, coins, armor or furniture, which currently transport the visitor to the daily life of the aristocratic house-museum.
Lázaro Galdiano Museum
Another museum for collecting. The Lázaro Galdiano Museum exhibits part of the more than 12.000 objects that the editor and collector José Lázaro acquired while he was alive. A large and very complete artistic collection of paintings, sculptures, prints, jewels, ivories, bronzes, weapons, goldsmiths, silverware, furniture or enamels, which includes pieces of enormous value such as the thirty masterpieces by El Greco, Murillo, Paret, Granach , El Bosco, Madrazo, Goya, Constable, Boltraffio and Velázquez.
