8 villages, 8 museums
A different plan, a tourist route through eight towns and eight museums
Eight villages make up the 'Museum Territory': El Atazar, El Berrueco, Cervera de Buitrago, Patones, Robledillo and Puentes Viejas (made up of Cinco Villas, Mangirón, Paredes de Buitrago and Serrada de la Fuente). We invite you to discover the region and its museums, the traditions and ways of life of the 'water villages', and to enjoy its tourist offer by following paths and itineraries. Come to the Sierra, you won't be disappointed! More information at: https://www.sierranortemadrid.org/territoriomuseo/
Museums of the senses and of the stone
The 'museum of the senses' is located in Cervera de Buitrago. It takes the visitor to experience a sensory journey through nature through smell, touch, sight and hearing. A journey through the senses and a reference for people with disabilities.
The 'stone museum' is located in the old Mangirón washhouse. It shows the work in the quarries as well as the uses and utilities of stone. The stone has been a benchmark in the economy of the Commonwealth and in its way of life.
Museums of the forge and the threshing floors
The 'museum of the forge' is located in Paredes de Buitrago, exhibits the elements related to the activity of the forge and through sound transports the visitor to a fully functioning forge
The threshing floors were in the north of the town, and nowadays, the 'Ataras threshing museum' is a park that includes representative figures and utensils of the activities that took place in the eras.
Museums of water and traditional games
The 'museum of water and hydraulic heritage' in the town of El Berrueco, shows a journey through the past, present and future of the hydraulic potential of the Sierra Norte and the surroundings of the El Atazar Reservoir, the great wealth of this heritage, through panels and scale models made on a large scale.
The museum is located in Serrada de la Fuente. In the outdoor area there are several play areas where you can enjoy popular Castilian games such as petanque, horseshoe or frog.
Museum of the ways of life of the past
The 'museum of the ways of life of the past' is located in Robledillo de la Jara. Graphically shows the visitor the different traditional trades such as coal, shepherd, blacksmith, baker or beekeeper, and the importance of these in the region.
Geological classroom museum
The 'museum of the geological classroom' of Patones de Abajo is located in a place of extraordinary geological value. It has explanatory panels with different aspects of geology, large-scale reproductions and it has a collection of representative rocks from the Sierra Norte of Madrid.
