San Martín de Valdeiglesias

San Martín de Valdeiglesias

A refuge for protected birds

AddToAny

Prime spot in the Sierra Oeste Mountain Range of Madrid surrounded by more than three thousand hectares of forest.

In a natural setting irrigated by the Alberche River, and comprising two large reservoirs (San Juan and Picadas), San Martín de Valdeiglesias is a fascinating blend of history, ecology and wine tourism. Protected species such as the griffon vulture or imperial eagle use this place as their own personal paradise. They soar over the emblematic Coracera Castle commissioned by Alvaro de Luna, who was Constable of Castile and the delegate of Juan II.

The Albillo Real or Grenache vineyards also help turn the municipal area into the capital of one of the most important areas of Denomination of Origin of Wines of Madrid.
