Restoration of the wall of the stables of the Goyeneche Palace

The foundation of Conjunto de Nuevo Baztán was the first case of a new industrial population that emerged in Spain, following Colbert's theories, in the 1709th century. Its foundation is due to the initiative of the industrialist Juan de Goyeneche, and its design was commissioned around XNUMX to the architect José Benito Churriguera.

The complex, property of the Community of Madrid, is made up of the palace, the church, the trade houses, the stables, the wine press, the stables and the olive grove. All this surrounded by a stone wall. The dependencies have been consolidating since the 80s of the last century.

The enclosing wall of the area of ​​the stables and the winery of the Palacio de Goyeneche, located on Calle del Palacio, presented a very heterogeneous state of materials due to the different punctual repairs it had had, both in the composition of the wall and in the jambs of the access holes, with detachment of elements of the copings and faults in the coronation masonry. The roof covering the main access hole had also been lost, as well as the double-leaf wooden gate.

In order to recover the homogeneity of the wall in its original image and, given its presence on a road with high pedestrian traffic, as it is next to the Interpretation Center and the Tourist Office, the need to restore the wall of the wall was considered. Calle del Palacio, recovering the gate to close the surroundings of the Palace in this section.

After the clearing of the vegetation, a stratigraphic reading of the wall and two tastings were carried out, inside, to identify the construction layers of the same; appearing a paved pavement that gave access to the wine press. The restoration work on the wall consisted of:

• Cleaning of spurious elements and materials, both in the filling and in the joints and cleaning of the masonry under the supervision of a restorer.
• Reconstruction of the masonry wall in the lost areas in a similar way to the existing one and of the brick jambs in the access gate.
• Restoration of the existing ceramic coping and its reconstruction, as well as the stone coping with some piece found in the earthworks.
• Reconstruction of the gabled roof with a curved tile that covers the access gate.
• Placement of the double-leaf gate, made according to the existing model and unrecoverable due to its degree of deterioration. In the new the nails of the old have been placed.
• At the access door to the mill, the stonework jambs have been cleaned, maintaining the original patinas and the right pinnacle has been placed.
• Cleaning of the metal door and anticorrosive primer.
