Murieron antes de tiempo
Lo tenían todo para seguir brillando pero el camino de los excesos les jugó una mala pasada. Talentosos y llenos de proyectos, estos músicos encontraron la muerte muy temprano, dando lugar al mito y convirtiéndose en iconos de su época y en leyendas de las que vinieron después.
El Rock and roll y su estilo de vida se ha llevado muchas vidas antes de tiempo, algunas de las grandes estrellas que cambiarían la música moderna que todos escuchamos murieron jóvenes, privándonos de su genialidad e inspiración.
Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin o la reciente Amy Winehouse son solo una muestra de jóvenes artistas de fama mundial que encontraron la muerte de forma trágica.
Muchos de estos artistas muerieron a causa de las drogas y el alcohol, aunque la carretera también ha tenido su protagonismo, en muchas ocasiones, consecuencia también de los excesos.

Los finales trágicos comenzaron cuando Buddy Holly (uno de los padres del Rock and roll), The Big Bopper (cantante norteamericano) y Ritchie Valens, que convirtió la canción popular mexicana La Bamba en un éxito del Rock and roll, vieron interrumpida su gira conjunta por Estados Unidos cuando se estrelló el avión de tres plazas en el que viajaban, a causa de una terrible tormenta de nieve. Ese día, 3 de febrero de 1959, es conocido y recordado como “El día que murió la música”.
A partir de este momento el mundo entero se sobrecoge por las noticias sobre fallecimientos de músicos de éxito que se van sucediendo con el transcurso de los años.
“Sexo, drogas y Rock and roll”, la famosa tríada maldita de los músicos, provocó todo tipo de tragedias, pero existe una extraña coincidencia en buena parte de ellos, llamada “El Club de los 27”. Un macabro club al que un nutrido número de grandes estrellas de la música se han unido a lo largo de la historia, como si hubieran firmado un pacto, morir a los 27 años.
Brian Jones, guitarra de The Rolling Stones fue encontrado sin vida en el fondo de su piscina en 1969; Jimi Hendrix, por ingesta de pastillas y alcohol en 1970; Janis Joplin, símbolo femenino de la contracultura de los 60 y la primera mujer en ser considerada una gran estrella del Rock, de sobredosis en 1970; Jim Morrison (The Doors) oficialmente de paro cardiaco en 1971 y Curt Cobain por suicidio en 1994.
Además de estos integrantes principales, el club cuenta con más de 30 músicos famosos repartidos por todos los rincones del planeta, entre ellos la recientemente fallecida Amy Winehouse.
Este club de los malditos ha inspirado una página de Wikipedia, la película The 27 Club, númerosos sitios en Internet y al menos un libro Los de 27: El mayor mito del Rock and roll.
Son infinidad los músicos de éxito que nos han abandonado antes de tiempo: John Lennon (The Beatles) asesinado por un fan a los 40 años; Elvis Presley con 42, superando ampliamente los 1.000 millones de discos vendidos desde su muerte, Freddie Mercury (Queen) a sus 45 por una bronconeumonía derivada de su avanzado estado de sida; Sid Vicious (Sex Pistols) con 21; Bon Scott, vocalista de AC/DC por intoxicación etílica a los 33 años; Marc Bolan (T.Rex), pieza clave del Glam Rock junto con David Bowie, en accidente de tráfico con 29 años o Marvin Gaye, cantante de soul asesinado por su padre a los 41 años de edad.
Aunque son muchos más los músicos no tan conocidos y también de gran valor artístico que han seguido la misma suerte: Ian Curtis, vocalista de los seminales e influyentes Joy Division, que se suicidó a los 24 años; el delicado trovador indie Elliott Smith, Gram parsons, Steve Bators, Nick Drake, Chris Bell…
En nuestro país, la pérdida de talentos jóvenes también se cobró muchas y sensibles bajas. Los accidentes de tráfico se llevaron a Nino Bravo y Cecilia, dos representantes de fama de la canción o Tino Casal y Eduardo Benavente (Parálisis Permanente), pertenecientes a la Movida Madrileña.
La cultura patria ha sufrido también pérdidas irreparables a consecuencia de enfermedades raras y poco frecuentes; es el caso de ‘Poch’, líder de los surrealistas e inclasificables Derribos Arias, de gran repercusión también en la Movida Madrileña, desaparecido a los 42 años a causa de un mal degenerativo del sistema nervioso (Enfermedad de Huntington). No podemos olvidar tampoco al genio Sergio Algora, poeta, dramaturgo y cantante de los imaginativos El Niño gusano, fallecido en el 2008 a los 39 años debido a una dolencia cardiaca.
La lista de desapariciones derivadas de los excesos y el consumo de sustancias adictivas es todavía más larga: Camarón de la Isla con 41 años; Enrique Urquijo (Los Secretos) a los 39; Pepe Risi (Burning) con 42; Antonio Flores a los 33; Carlos Berlanga (Kaka de Luxe, Alaska y los Pegamoides y Dinarama) con 43 años…
Nos quedan sus canciones, aunque no podemos evitar pensar en todas las que hubiéramos podido disfrutar si no hubieran muerto antes de tiempo.
