Why is it excellent?
The Community of Madrid has one of the best public transport systems in the world, which is a reference and example for other countries. In fact, more than 40 delegations from other countries have visited the CRTM during 2019.
As the region’s Public Transportation Authority, the CRTM centralises the competences of both the Region of Madrid and those of the various municipalities therein regarding public transportation, undertaking the integrated management of the public transport system throughout the region where more than 4 million trips are completed every day.
Its main objectives and functions make it possible to deliver a more efficient, less polluting and good quality service to citizens.
Through the Centro de Innovación y Gestión del Transporte Público (CITRAM – Public Transportation Innovation and Management Centre) The Madrid Regional Transport Consortium supervises in real time the operation of all modes of transport (Metro, Light Rail, urban and interurban buses, and Cercanías) that operate in the Community of Madrid. Its main mission is to provide integrated information on the service to citizens who, for the most part, make multimodal trips. This allows Madrid residents to dynamically optimize their daily trips. To do this, it works in permanent coordination with the 27 public and private operators that make up the region's transportation system.
The CRTM is developing important work in collaboration with public and private entities in the field of research, development and innovation to launch projects with European funding, including Civitas ECCENTRIC or SCALE-UP.
