Monuments in Outskirts

This initiative, promoted by the Dirección General de Patrimonio Cultural, aims to disseminate the heritage of different municipalities of the Community. The campaign, which is developed under the motto Historical Heritage of Madrid: what you've never seen, as you've never seen , offers the citizen a different heritage experience, giving greater visibility to a heritage not so well known but no less relevant that, in addition, is shown in an innovative way, linking it to different places and creating interesting cultural leisure proposals.

Know your monuments in Cercanías includes towns that can be reached by public transport: Alcalá de Henares, Aranjuez, Cercedilla, Colmenar Viejo, San Lorenzo de El Escorial, El Escorial, Getafe and Móstoles.

Forty nine cultural assets have been selected, These cover the most important archaeological, industrial and artistic heritage of each locality. In this selection, several factors have been evaluated: its degree of protection, its historical-artistic relevance, its singularity and the interventions developed by the Community of Madrid.
